Access is from The Portland Rd  about 17km east of Nelson. Lake Monibeong Rd heads south through the large pine plantations to the lake. Camping is usually allowed here for a fee, there is a toilet. The lake always has water in it and the surrounding habitat evokes peace and can be quite productive.
