On the Great Northern Hwy about 21km south of Cue this is an old mining and railway town. There is nothing but a bit of rubble here and there to denote the existence of a town here. Technically it is on an island, though Lake Austin is ephemeral and only fills after heavy rain, so don’t expect to see the island as an island. The habitat has been destroyed here and is struggling to revive, with still very little above sparse ground cover in evidence.
Camp rating 1 in the truck parking bay, it’s very open with no facilities right by the road
